Super Babies and SVU

I was having a conversation with a friend today about babies. I said something to the effect of, "Its at a point now where people can genetically make their own SUPER babies." The problem with that is that it actually is NOT at a point where people can make super babies. My friend corrected me on this. I got the 'super babies' thing from an episode of Law & Order: SVU. I'm not sure in what capacity, but I just remember them talking about making Nazi babies at some point.

I think having super babies would be cool. Pretty soon we could spawn a generation of X-Men. That can't be bad. My only concern is that America is not as far ahead of the technology curve as we play ourselves out to be, so other countries would beat us to the punch. This is a problem because other countries could train their super babies to fight the wars of the future; said wars would probably be against America since we are loathed among other nations.

Let us say, for example, that China learns how to make super babies in the year 2010. America would probably be a few years behind; let's say 2015. The super babies of China would be ready to join the Chinese military by 2028, when they're 18 years old. That is 5 years before American super X-Men babies will be ready to join the military and fight for the country.

Clearly there is an issue.

I'm not saying that China is our enemy or that we have any reason to be afraid, but we're not exactly holding hands on the playground. One wrong move and side step from America, then BAM! We'd have an army of Chinese babies running through walls and flying on sheets of ice. America wouldn't be any better.

What I'm ultimately saying is that I am relieved that SVU lied to me and we are not able to make super, ultra-intelligent, X-Men babies. That is a power that no country should have, after all.
