Maturity Switch

Recently I was involved in a conversation about relationships and life in general. One of the people I was speaking with had some problems with their mate and another person chimed in, "Yeah, that's why I date older men." I was a bit put off because she said it as if she had discovered the secrets of dating. As I heard her rant off on the benefits of dating older men I got a sense that she was one of those high school seniors who looked down on the freshmen because....well...just because! Its stupid and a very D-Bag thing to do.

Her logic was simple: The older you are the more intelligent and mature you are. Well, the fact is intelligence and maturity does not come with age; it comes with experience. This is not an uncommon argument, which baffles me because I think its ridiculous.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this. It just irritates me when people assume that they or someone else is suddenly more qualified to make more sound decisions JUST BECAUSE they are older. The fact of the matter is that some of the most immature people I have come across are over 30 years old. I know people who are not even 20 years old yet, that have their shit more together than a lot of the older adults I have come to be acquainted with.

Like I said, I don't really have a focus with this blog. I actually started writing it two days ago.

Just make sure that before you go around claiming to be mature or assuming someone else is mature, you assess what you've actually been through in life.

Ok...later.
